Young Manchester are currently looking for a Treasurer to join our passionate and diverse board of trustees, helping us to make sure that every child and young person in Manchester can thrive through outstanding opportunities and shape their city.
As our Treasurer, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health of our organisation and helping us to invest in the future of our city's young people.
Role Summary:
The Young Manchester Treasurer works closely with our Co-Chairs, Co-Chief Executives, and board of trustees to provide strategic financial governance of our organisation's resources. In this position, you will oversee our financial risk-management process, ensure that our annual accounts are submitted to relevant regulators in a timely fashion, and liaise with external auditors and/or independent reviewers on financial issues.
Main Responsibilities:
Budgeting and Strategic Financial Planning: You will ensure that all of our strategic plans are financially appraised and budgets are aligned to both short-term and long-term objectives. You will oversee planning/budgeting processes in collaboration with the Board and suggest alternative scenarios while evaluating strategic plans as a part of the risk management process.
Statutory Financial Reporting: You will be the board-level liaison with external auditors on specific issues in the auditing process and related board representations. You will guide and advise fellow trustees to formally approve the annual report and audited accounts and explain technicalities of accounts in plain language which is fully understood by the trustees.
External Relations: You will act as an ambassador for Young Manchester and represent the charity at sector external functions, meetings and events.
Governance: You will lead the Board's duty to ensure proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements. You will also chair the Finance and Risk committee which occurs every other month and govern the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies.
Person Specification:
To be considered for the role, you must:
Have a strong alignment with Young Manchester's values.
Be a qualified accountant with demonstrated commercial awareness and knowledge.
Have knowledge of charity SORP and impending changes.
Be competent in IT skills.
Have proven ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
Have analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.
Have understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
Be able to provide leadership to the operational team and have good communication and leadership skills.
It would also be desirable if you:
Have demonstrated knowledge and experience of charity fundraising and finance practices.
Are dedicated to the organisation's cause and objectives and willing to act as the charity's ambassador to external bodies, charities, and companies.
Have skills and experience in one or more areas of non-executive governance and management. e.g. strategic planning, business management, financial/accountancy, understanding of HR issues, experience of Trusts or other grant-giving bodies, particularly fundraising and legal knowledge.
Have a team-oriented approach to work.
